Get Started

Two or three minutes from download to your first list of spots.

What you need

No .NET runtime is required. The installer bundles everything.

Download and install

  1. Download PSK Heard By

The download is a zip. If you would rather have the installer directly, use PSKHeardBy.msi — but a bare .msi usually triggers a stronger browser warning than the zip.

  2. If your browser warns you that the file "isn't commonly downloaded" or could be dangerous: that is expected for a small independent project that is not code-signed with an expensive certificate. Choose Keep, then Download anyway / Show more as needed.
  3. Open the zip and extract PSKHeardBy.msi.
  4. Run PSKHeardBy.msi. If Windows SmartScreen shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" box, choose More info then Run anyway.
  5. The installer offers a Desktop shortcut and a Start Menu shortcut, both on by default. It installs to C:\Program Files\KB0UZT\PSKHeardBy\.

Your first search

  1. Launch PSK Heard By. Focus starts in the window; press Tab to move through the controls, or use the Alt shortcuts below.
  2. Alt+DDirection. Leave it on "Who heard me" to see stations that copied the callsign, or choose "Who I heard".
  3. Alt+CCallsign. Type the callsign. Case does not matter.
  4. Alt+BHow far back. Pick a time window from 5 minutes to 24 hours. One hour is a good starting point.
  5. Press Enter in the callsign box, or Alt+K (Check Now), to fetch.
  6. The Status line at the bottom reports the result, for example "Last fetch: 3:42 PM, OK, HTTP 200, 47 reports." Press Alt+S to read it with normal screen reader keys.
  7. Alt+T moves to the results tree. Use the arrow keys to explore, and press Enter on any station for full detail.

That's it. From here, Using It covers how to shape the tree, and Options covers sounds, auto-refresh, and update checks.

Keeping it current

PSK Heard By checks for a newer version when it starts (you can turn this off in Options) and will offer to download and install one for you. You can also press F4 at any time to open the update page in your browser.
